Three-Dimensional Hyperthermia with Non-Invasive Magnetic Resonance (MR) Imaging Capabilities

The BSD-2000 3D/MR System combines the sophisticated treatment delivery and control capabilities of the Sigma Eye Applicator with the non-invasive patient and treatment monitoring capabilities of the independently operated MR imaging System.

In order to minimize the interaction between the two systems, special filters are installed in both systems, thus eliminating interference problems. The BSD-2000 3D/MR and the Sigma Eye MR System provide a high degree of RF isolation between the hyperthermia therapy and MR imaging device.

  • Non-invasive MRI during hyperthermia treatments provides the capability to monitor changes in temperature
  • Electromagnetic (EM) phased array hyperthermia applicator with 3D heating pattern and shaping control
  • 3D, patient specific, treatment planning workstation currently available through our partner Sennewald.de
  • Non-invasive magnetic resonance (MR) imaging
  • 3D optimization of radiated power amplitudes and phases

This model is currently sold outside of the U.S.

Tumor Heating Process

The BSD-2000/3D/MR interfaces to the MRI system via SigmaVision software.  The initial T1 image is captured an brought into the treatment planning software.  During treatment, images in 10 minute increments are received by the software to validate temperature progression and targeting.  The operator can move the heating volume in and X, Y, Z axis for optimal heating. Image capture and heat zone adjustment can be accomplished without treatment interruption.

Annular Phased Array

The Sigma applicators are annular phased array applicators that are comprised of a clear plastic shell, 8 radiating dipoles, and a bolus membrane. The Sigma Ellipse provides improved comfort for smaller sized patients.

Cooling System

Water system automatically fills the bolus and controls the bolus water temperature. This keeps patient exterior at comfortable temperature range.

Fabric Sling

Fabric sling comfortably supports patient inside the applicator for optimized patient comfort.

Quick Drain Capability

Quick drain capability allows fast access to the patient – 15 seconds for patient access and 30 seconds for a complete drain.

Sigma System

Interchangeable phased array applicators to support different patient sizes.

Intuitive Interface

User friendly, intuitive, color graphics interface.
Step-by-step guide for setup and treatment procedure.

Automatic Monitoring

Closed-loop feedback system provides automatic monitoring and control of treatment parameters, including power output, frequency, amplitude and phase, tissue temperatures, core temperature, and treatment time.

Temperature Control

Control of power and tissue temperature to within ±0.1°C.
Data regarding temperatures, RF power level, and RF power control updated every 2 seconds.

Safety Checks

The computer automatically performs safety checks to ensure proper operation of the system and ensure safety

Independent Phase & Amplitude

Solid-state amplifier with 4-channel independent phase and amplitude adjustment capability

500 watts per Channel

Maximum power output of 0 to 500 watts per channel. Phase accuracy within a 10 degree tolerance.

Controlled Phase Offset

Computer automatically monitors and controls forward and reflected power, phase, and power on each channel.

Treatment Planning Software

Optimized treatment settings are calculated through the use of treatment planning software tools provided with the system.

High Accuracy

Non-perturbing, electromagnetically insensitive, temperature sensors with an accuracy of ±0.2°C over a range of 25 to 52°C.

Automated Positioning

Automated positioning system allows the operator to map the sensor along the length of the catheter in order to determine the temperature profile.

Precise Calibration

Precise calibration reference sensor is accurate to ±0.05°C over a range of 0 to 60°C.

Real-time MR Image Guided

The BSD-2000 3D and 3D/MRI (non-US) employs real-time MR image guided non-invasive thermometry using proton resonance frequency shift measurements, accurate within ±0.5˚C.
